An idea turned to conception this past week as promoters for the first ever United States Rally Kart Association (USRKA) US Open of Dirt are pleased to announce their premiere event. Taking place at the US 41 Speedway in Lakeville, Indiana on September 13th, five asphalt division classes will take to the dirt road course in the hopes of becoming champions in the first ever US Open.

With five classes on the docket, asphalt sprint competitors in the L0206, Yamaha Senior, Yamaha Junior, TaG Senior and TaG Junior ranks will try their hand on a dirt road course in central Indiana. With a large event purse being finalized with some exciting sponsors and supporters, the event is sure to be a hit and one that will be on the karting calendar for years to come. With multiple top-level national teams and four Verizon IndyCar Series drivers verbally committing to the event, the US Open of Dirt is set to take place just over two months from today.

"Sprint karting is so fragmented that unfortunately it's very hard to say who the best is,” explained Chris Wheeler, who is putting his efforts behind the event. “Dirt, just like the rain, has always been a great equalizer and to do it with a road course format and with the same kart and engines competitors would normally use, we will have a more clear picture on who the best really is as both a driver and tuner.”

Wheeler continued, “Race Track Engineering and their staff, who work with sanctioning bodies such as IndyCar, NASCAR, and USAC, will be handling the event operations. We are hoping people will enjoy working with top professionals from all over the motorsports world."

eKartingNews.com has stepped up to support the first time event by becoming the official media partner of the US Open of Dirt. Race Tech Development will take on the role of media releases to help promote the exciting program.

“We are very excited to be working with Rob Howden and David Cole from eKartingNews.com as well as Mike Maurini from Race Tech Development,” explained Wheeler. “These guys do so much for the sport of karting that it was a no brainer to approach them and see if they would assist in the efforts of the event.”

With a website currently in the works, teams and competitors are welcome to email: [email protected] to gather more information on the exciting event.
