Overview

  • The podless wonder takes a peek down the inside of a TonyKart Esprit

"it looked like you brought a knife to a gunfight" one Facebook commenter said.

Conventional wisdom would tend to agree, given the circumstances.

In the 1990's, the 100cc direct drive classes in Europe (ICA, Formula A and Super A) saw fierce
battles and rapid development of equipment with each homologation.

One would think a Sirio TT85 from the early nineties would get left for dead by the best of the late 90's 100cc equipment, Rotax VME.

But it's not that simple, as this onboard video from round three of the F100, Spirit of The 90's series

    demonstrates.

So, join Olliver Scullion onboard for a wild ride of high revs and an epic battle between his pre-bodywork kart
against the best the late 90's could offer.

    Takeaways...

    * Less (parts, complexity and weight) is more (performance).
    * Newer isn't necessarily better or faster.
    * Setup, tuning and driving is the biggest part of the equation.
