Day #2 of The Outlaw Kart Invitational is in the books.  The Drivers Meeting was first on the agenda followed by hot laps for both the Outlaw 250 and Open Outlaw classes, Open Outlaw Time Trials, 250 Heats and finishing with 4 groups of Qualifying Heats.

There was dirt slinging, wall banging, slide jobs and one very scary airborn flipping kart by Chad Hill that had everyone on thier feet. Luckily Chad did not suffer any injuries and his crew went right to work making repairs on his kart for tomorrows Features.

The Outlaw 250 class has 11 entries with the fast lap time of 9.298 set by Pierce Urbanosky, the current KAM Kartway points leader.  During he the 250 Outlaw heats we used the Delaware Double file restarts (aka Texas Shootout) that the fans and drivers seem to love (similar to NASCAR's restart but the leader is in front by himself followed by the pack).  And while femals are joing the motorsports in record numbers, we only have one girl competing at the event.  Her name is Gracie Taylor and boys....she's coming for you.

Kaley Engstrom, Spring Car driver and former National Champion Outlaw Kart Racer (and daughter to Mike & Kelley Engstrom - track owners) took the helm today and was the official Race Director while dad.  She did an amazing job of keeping order and running a smooth race program.  You can learn more about Kaley at www.kaleyengstrom.com.

There are 30 Open Outlaw racers with only 12 taking the track for the A Main Feature.  The top 8 finishers in the Qualifying Heats today are locked into the A Main with the.  The slowest 12 karts will comprise a C Main for 12 laps with the top 4 moving up to the B Main.  The B Main will be 15 laps with the top 6 securing their spots in the A Main.  The remaining karts will then have a shot at the Last Chance Qualifyer where the top 2 will round out the grid for the feature race.  The game changer "Pole Shuffle" will take the top 8 and have them compete in a King of the Hill style competition where they will go out 2 at a time for a bracket style eliminiation with the last one standing winning the Pole Position. This could be a game changer!
